Research Student wins two awards at IEEE Conference

Ms Lingjun Gao (Sally), a Ph.D. research student from the ICES Research Group, has recently won two awards – GRADUATE STUDENT BEST PAPER PRIZE and STUDENT TRAVEL GRANT at the IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) in Hangzhou, China during 10-12 May 2011. I2MTC is one of the most important conferences in the field of sensors, instrumentation and measurement. The award winning paper is entitled ’Contour-based image segmentation for on-line size distribution measurement of pneumatically conveyed particles’. Sally has been working with Professor Yong Yan on on-line continuous measurement of particle size distribution in pneumatic conveying pipelines for two years. Particle size distribution of pulverised fuel at coal and biomass fired power stations is one of the most important parameters in relation to combustion stability, process efficiency and pollutant emissions.
Congratulations to Sally!
