An Ideas Factory grant has been awarded to Dr. Gang Lu to develop a demonstration version of a stereoscopic imaging based fire detection device which can be used for large volume space environments (warehouses, distribution centres, and other industrial/public sites). Unlike conventional point fire detectors, the device to be developed will not only detect a fire incident at a very early stage of development, but also provide descriptive information about the fire such as location, size and propagation in real time.
