A new ideas factory grant of £9,515 has been awarded to Professor Yong Yan to develop a full commercial version of a biomass imager. This is an extension of an earlier Ideas Factory project which has resulted in a “proof of concept” demonstration system for the analysis of biomass fuel particles using digital imaging techniques. The demonstration system was shown to operate well and positive feedback was received from potential users in the power generation industry. As part of this new project a full commercial prototype will be constructed and marketing activities undertaken. Applications of the technology to the analysis of other granular materials such as rice grain, coffee bean or tea leaf will also be explored.
