{"id":2577,"date":"2019-08-29T14:28:38","date_gmt":"2019-08-29T13:28:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/?p=2577"},"modified":"2019-08-29T14:28:38","modified_gmt":"2019-08-29T13:28:38","slug":"royal-engineers-museum-volunteering-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2019\/08\/29\/royal-engineers-museum-volunteering-opportunity\/","title":{"rendered":"Royal Engineers Museum: Volunteering Opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Royal Engineers Museum are looking for a Digitisation Volunteer to join the team!<\/p>\n<p>This is an opportunity for a student to assist digitisation and curatorial staff with processing and cataloguing the museum&#8217;s digital assets, comprised of scanned flat artworks, historic photographic albums, journals and museum collections pieces captured with conventional digital photography.<\/p>\n<p>This will entail volunteering for a minimum of one day a week.<\/p>\n<p>Key Responsibilities include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist the Digitisation Officer with processing RAW and TIF image files to archival standards<\/li>\n<li>Renaming and applying metadata to image files<\/li>\n<li>Applying images to adlib, the Museum\u2019s database<\/li>\n<li>Assist curatorial staff in making the museum collection accessible through the development of the online catalogue<\/li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The museum are looking for a student interested in museums, heritage and\/or photography. They need to be able to work independently, demonstrate a good level of computer literacy and communication skills. A methodical approach towards work, with a good level of attention to detail, is essential.<\/p>\n<p>No prior experience is needed. The following, however, would be advantageous:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An understanding of digital image processes &amp; a demonstrable understanding of associated quality control issues.<\/li>\n<li>A familiarity with Photoshop \/ Adobe Bridge or similar digital imaging programs utilised within a PC environment.<\/li>\n<li>Previous experience of working within a museum environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;text-decoration: none\">To apply for the role please send a CV (no more than 2 A4 sides, not incl.
