Academic success remains imperative, but employers are increasingly looking for more and in particular, soft skills and relevant work experience.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure you gain both these skills and experiences, the University of Kent created the <strong>Employability Points (EP) Scheme. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first part of the scheme requires you to undertake co-curricular activities and some History-relevant examples may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Join the History and\/or Military History Society.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer with a local Heritage organisation such as Canterbury Cathedral, Royal Engineers Museum and Historic Dockyard Chatham.<\/li>\n<li>Become a Student Ambassador and\/or Academic Peer Mentor.<\/li>\n<li>Getting involved with the student newspaper Inquire.<\/li>\n<li>Attend conferences and open lectures.<\/li>\n<li>Join a Community Action Group such as Kent RAG.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By getting involved with these activities, you can log them on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/signupnow.html\">MyFolio<\/a> and in turn receive \u2018points\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>You earn as many points as possible whilst at you are studying at Kent and towards the end of Term Two, if you have earned enough points, you can use them to apply for EP \u2018rewards\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Rewards include internships (cost 200 points), work experience (cost 150 points), work shadowing (cost 100 points) and experience days (cost 75 points) to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>Over 140 companies and organisations support the EP Scheme and for this year, we can already confirm the following rewards:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2018\/10\/12\/canterbury-cathedral\/\">Canterbury Cathedral<\/a> \u2013 work experience in the Archives and Library<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2018\/09\/17\/the-historic-dockyard-chatham\/\">Historic Dockyard Chatham<\/a> \u2013 work experience in collections, education and outreach.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2018\/08\/28\/royal-engineers-museum\/\">Royal Engineers Museum<\/a> \u2013 work experience in the archives, as well as an exclusive archival tour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So far, we already have some amazing rewards confirmed for this year:<\/p>\n<p>However, you may also be aware that as a History student you are developing some amazing transferable skills and in the past, students have undertaken EP rewards with local councils, government agencies, digital marketing agencies and much more!<\/p>\n<p>For instance, the EP scheme is also offering amazing rewards with the following companies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2018\/10\/09\/yoyo-design\/\">Yoyo Design<\/a> \u2013 project management internship<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2018\/09\/06\/tunbridge-wells-borough-council\/\">Tunbridge Wells Borough Council<\/a> \u2013 shadowing the Chief Executive<\/li>\n<li>DSTL \u2013 government research (TBC).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2018\/10\/15\/civil-service-fast-stream\/\">Civil Service Fast Stream<\/a> \u2013 shadow senior civil servants.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2018\/10\/09\/mcm-net\/\">MCM Net<\/a> \u2013 content writing internship<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2018\/08\/08\/ep-sponsor-waterstones\/\">Waterstones<\/a> \u2013 publishing and sales work experience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For example, Valeriya Leonteva undertook an Accounts Management internship with <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2018\/08\/16\/reflect-digital\/\">Reflect Digital <\/a>in 2017 and you can find out more in this video: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8FhsUtdwbTI\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8FhsUtdwbTI<\/a> Also, History student, Chris Day undertook an internship with <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2018\/08\/31\/medway-council\/\">Medway Council<\/a> working in the Housing Department \u2013 you can find out more <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/2018\/08\/09\/medway-council-reward-case-study\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you are rewarded by the EP Scheme, you will gain the chance to attend the annual EP Rewards Evening! Here, top scoring students are awarded Amazon vouchers by a variety of companies and we can already confirm that the Civil Service Fast Stream will award \u00a3150 Amazon voucher to the highest scoring student studying a heritage related degree!
