Student Case Study: Roxana Cioara

As always, the EP team love to hear from our reward winning students and share their experiences with you – we hope you are inspired by these stories and enjoy reading them!

Recently we caught up with Roxana Cioara (Law student) who completed an internship with Southeastern and work experience with JPP Law LLP. Roxana became involved with the EP Scheme in her second year saying: “The scheme was advertised at the Freshers’ Fair initially and there was also an announcement in one of our lectures. As I was attending multiple events weekly, this was a great way to gain more points and utilise them for future opportunities.”

The Southeastern internship was initially set at ten weeks, however the company extended Roxana’s employment to almost five months!

“During this time, I worked in the Procurement and Contracts team and helped the Head of Procurement with various tasks. In the past few months I helped my team reorganise their filing system, procured multiple contracts with new suppliers and assisted in our office move. As a result of my involvement, I was awarded the ‘Going the Extra Mile’ Bronze Award by the company’s directors.”

Roxana got to visit different train stations across the network, giving her an appreciation of the hard work carried out by Southeastern and providing a rounded view of how they operate. She stated:

“In addition to learning more about the railway and the legal industry, I believe that the most important thing that I learned during these rewards was how to multi-task between them and how to adapt my knowledge from one to the other. I was surprised to see how many of the skills I learned in both positions are transferable to one another.

At JPP Law, her experience was focused on developing her legal knowledge in Commercial, Company and Business Law – “During this time, I was assigned different paralegal and trainee responsibilities. I assisted the company’s Managing Director with various tasks including conflict checks and drafting of various legal documents. The work was rewarding and insightful.” Being a virtual law firm gave her an alternative perspective into the world of law.

When asked how her EP rewards have impacted her career, Roxana commented:

“Both of these rewards have had a significant impact on my career. These motivated me to move to London in August and reconsider my path into law fully. As I decided to take a year off between my LLB and LLB, these opportunities provided the ‘foot in the door’ that I needed in order to start my professional career.”

Furthermore, as a result of her internship with JPP Law, Roxana has been offered a position as a Virtual Paralegal at their practice.
