The Royal Engineers Museum are looking for a Digitisation Volunteer to join the team!
This is an opportunity for a student to assist digitisation and curatorial staff with processing and cataloguing the museum’s digital assets, comprised of scanned flat artworks, historic photographic albums, journals and museum collections pieces captured with conventional digital photography.
This will entail volunteering for a minimum of one day a week.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Assist the Digitisation Officer with processing RAW and TIF image files to archival standards
- Renaming and applying metadata to image files
- Applying images to adlib, the Museum’s database
- Assist curatorial staff in making the museum collection accessible through the development of the online catalogue
- Other duties as assigned
The museum are looking for a student interested in museums, heritage and/or photography. They need to be able to work independently, demonstrate a good level of computer literacy and communication skills. A methodical approach towards work, with a good level of attention to detail, is essential.
No prior experience is needed. The following, however, would be advantageous:
- An understanding of digital image processes & a demonstrable understanding of associated quality control issues.
- A familiarity with Photoshop / Adobe Bridge or similar digital imaging programs utilised within a PC environment.
- Previous experience of working within a museum environment.
