For a number of years, Canterbury Cathedral Lodge have been rewarding students, through the Employability Points Scheme, with essential experience in events management.
This year’s reward winner, Azra Kucukkaramuklu (Kent Business School) shared her thoughts on her work experience placement.
During the 3-week placement, Azra has been given plenty of responsibility and has been proactive in working alongside the Conference and Events Co-ordinators. Azra was principally tasked with a project focused on forecasting events for this forthcoming Christmas period, whilst also gaining the chance to attend client meetings, assisting with contracts and quotations and following-up on enquiries.
As a result of this, Azra not only gained a comprehensive insight into event planning, but also gained the chance to develop her computing skills, communication skills – talking to clients in meetings and over the phone and confidence in regards to asking questions.
Reflecting on this reward and the EP Scheme in general, Azra commented:
“The EP Scheme has been incredibly useful. I have gained so much experience and responsibilities due to logging my co-curricular activities.”
Catherine Lucas, Conference and Events Co-ordinator, also commented:
“Azra has been really fantastic and has been willing to learn so much…She has been a real asset to the team.”
