Thanks to funding made available through EIRA, an initiative which aims to support innovation in the East of England, multi-award winning digital marketing agency, Reflect Digital, recently recruited two interns via the Employability Points (EP) Scheme.
These interns – Dhritiya Shashitanth and Swapnil Shah have beenĀ undertaking respective roles in digital marketing and website development, where they have had a significant impact on this local business.
Dhritiya, who studies English and American Literature, has been able to take forward her passion for social media by gaining a comprehensive insight into the world of digital marketing. Here, she has been given real responsibility and the chance to apply her creative writing skills by generating content for client’s websites. Beyond this, she has also been able to gain a comprehensive understanding of the different aspects of digital marketing, such as Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and Paid Per Click (PPC). As a result of this internship, Dhritiya is now considering a future career in digital marketing, something she never considered whilst undertaking her English and American Literature degree!
Swapnil, meanwhile, has been given the chance to unleash his passion for coding, where he has been able to create websites for clients, develop new technical tools and undertake ad hoc website amendments and software repairs. He also credits the internship for allowing him to develop a greater understanding of different technologies and ascertain hands-on experience, something which he did not gain directly via his degree programme. Most importantly, Swapnil reflected, the internship has now provided him with confidence to apply for graduate level positions in this sector.
Becky Simms, Founder and CEO, commented:
“The impact of the EIRA funding has been fantastic, it has allowed us to welcome two students into our business for the summer. The quality of the students from the University of Kent is always high, this year it has been phenomenal, we are so pleased and will be sad to see the students leave! The students have fitted in perfectly to our team, getting stuck in with client work and understanding how a digital agency operates.”
The EP team would like to thank EIRA for co-funding these great opportunities.
