FDM Group were kind enough to arrange a company experience day for our students back in June! The sessions went through AGILE software development with our students and how they work as a company.
To start off with, we had a session with Kristy who explained who FDM were and what they did. This was followed by Lakvinder who went through AGILE and SCRUM with us and how they use it on a day to day basis when working as a team and asked the students questions and answered any he was ask. However, the main portion of our session with FDM the students were broken up into teams to complete a development task. Our students were tasked with coming up with a wireframe (a rough outline for a website or app) for either a banking or retail app. They had 10 minutes to come up with between 4 and 6 wireframes with an additional bit of time to refine them and prepare for presentation. They all worked well together and seeing what methods students used to complete the task was interesting as they all used different programmes to build their wireframes.
About half way through the time, Kristy added an additional point that the students needed to complete – mirroring real life app development. They all reacted well to the change and by the time had come to present, they were all ready. The presentations which all four groups created were good and all hit specifications. While students may have been studying AGILE and other project management techniques, these were newer to me! It was great to see the students getting involved and enjoying the tasks.
Kristy also let the students know that they have graduate positions open across the UK. FDM Group are a great tech consultancy firm with locations around the UK. Check them out here; https://www.fdmgroup.com/
