The EP Team caught up with an exciting new company to EP – Marlowe Consulting, to learn about their experience with their intern.
Marlowe Consulting are specialists in business change management. They partner with clients to deliver large scale, complex transformation, and change. Marlowe’s focus is on people within the client’s organisation, ensuring change is delivered practically, successfully and sustainably.
When asked why they became involved with EP, Deborah Feakins, Director, stated:
“We are based in the Canterbury area and wanted to contribute to the development of local students by offering the opportunity to gain real-world work experience. We wanted to encourage students interested in working in business by providing a placement, specifically looking for an individual who may not have previously had this chance.”
Anjali McGovern, a Psychology student, undertook this opportunity in the form of an internship with Marlowe earlier in the summer, she was tasked with supporting a piece of research into management of Public Private Partnerships (PPP) on behalf of one of their global clients. This project involved Anjali attending regular meetings with Deborah and with the client, creating and presenting a report from research and findings, and included recommendations for further work.
Deborah said:
“Anjali demonstrated good people skills and was able to integrate into the team quickly, she took onboard feedback and was able to improve her work as a result. Anjali worked on her presentation skills, specifically learning how to speak in a professional register and communicate with senior colleagues and client staff members”.
In terms of impact on the business, Deborah commented that the placement was a great way to get to know a young person and the skills that recent graduates are able to bring to the workplace. It enabled the company to explore their own processes and share knowledge and experience.
