GK Unions currently have a number of volunteering opportunities available. See below for full information:
Primary School Reading Volunteer
Burnt Oak is a local Primary School in Gillingham. They are looking for patient and friendly volunteers to support children in their reading.
In encouraging children to read for pleasure it can help build their confidence and open them up to a world of independent learning and exploration. If you are looking into becoming a teacher or working with children in the future then this is a perfect opportunity to try.
A DBS check is required but no other experience is necessary. The sessions can be flexible and volunteers can pick which year group to work with. They usually ask for an hour a week on a regular basis.
Please contact volunteering@gkunions.co.uk if you are interested.
Book Club Volunteer
The Book Club Leaders are responsible for running the University of Kent Book Club. These monthly book clubs encourage reading outside of the academic curriculum on a range of topics, often linked to key awareness days or months (such as Black History Month in October or LGBT History Month in February). A great chance to inspire and indulge a love of literature and learning!
This opportunity is open to University of Kent students only and might particularly appeal to a Journalism student. The book club runs weekly in term time only.
Please contact volunteering@gkunions.co.uk if you are interested.
Sustainability Ambassador
Are you passionate about environmental and social sustainability?
This volunteer Sustainability Ambassador is part of an exciting project based around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These Global Goals are 17 goals that outline the vision for a sustainable world by 2030.
You would be volunteering to encourage, motivate and support the staff and students to respect these goals. You can help on sustainability projects on campus, as well as creatively campaign to further these goals.
The role will equip you with useful skills for future employability and be a clear way to make a difference on campus and in the wider world.
