Ellisia Hobbs – Accounting and Finance – became involved with the EP Scheme in order to benefit from practical insight into the accounting field, complimenting her studies. As a result she recently undertook a work placement with MFW Accountants – MFW are one of the leading accountancy, taxation, business services and insolvency firms in Kent.
This is what she told the EP Team about her experience:
“It was a busy and professional environment, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. It was enjoyable to be part of an office team, all working on such varied tasks. Learning so many systems at the same time was challenging but rewarding.”
Ellisia had the opportunity to work on accounts for sole traders and limited companies, including – inputting data on spreadsheets, completing bank reconciliation, accruals, prepayments and posting journal entries on IRIS (an accounting specific software).
She stated: “I enjoyed being able to see the whole process through, from receiving bank statements and receipts to finalising accounts and preparing letters to be sent out.”
The placement gave Ellisia the opportunity to experience the daily environment of a busy accountancy firm, alongside using relevant software packages. This enabled her to reflect upon different roles and those which she found enjoyable or more challenging. Ultimately, the work placement confirmed her degree and career choice!
Ellisia concluded:
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank the companies and individuals within those companies, that offer their time, expertise and support. I would also like to thank the EP team for all their organisation and support throughout the process. I have recommended the scheme to others and will continue to do so.”
