Graduate Roles
- Chemical Engineer (Glascoed): Be part of a team responsible for the design, manufacture and support of a wide range of munitions products. Our portfolio is diverse, ranging from chemicals and materials to autonomous vehicles, software and systems, and you’ll formulate new materials, design features and functions and to ensure that we meet design tolerances and volume requirements on complex products.
- Commercial (Samlesbury, Warton and Portsmouth): Help us estimate, bid, negotiate and manage our most complex contracts. You’ll be responsible for innovating new solutions to customer requirements and providing competitive advantage whilst meeting contractual obligations.
- Electrical and Electronic Engineer (Rochester, Portsmouth and Scotstoun and Barrow): Make decisions about electronic product content, optimise hardware and software design concepts, develop sophisticated design processes and test complex products. Gaining exposure to the entire project life cycle, you’ll play a key role in both maintaining our existing systems and developing new technologies.
- FLDP (UK Flexible – will require multiple relocations): The scheme offers significant responsibility and exposure, with three year-long placements to gain extensive experience of financial, management and project accounting. We also support you in obtaining your CIMA qualification.The FLDP continues with a two-year senior accountancy position, offering the managerial experience and skills development you will require to move into a leadership role within our dynamic finance arena at the end of the programme.”
- Human Factors (Barrow): Gain knowledge and experience of the analytical methods that ensure our products are safe and effective for human use. You’ll work on anthropometry and sensory capabilities and learn about the effects of stress, workplace design, information and control requirement definition within human machine interfaces and environmental ergonomics.

By providing the IT for almost every aspect of the business, our technology touches every corner from Engineering design tools to Manufacturing systems delivering cutting edge capability, from Finance and Procurement systems to Data Analytics
- Manufacturing Engineer (Glasgow)
- Mechanical Engineer (Rochester, Glascoed, Portsmouth, Broad Oak, Scotstoun, Barrow): Design, develop and test complex mechanical systems and turn ideas into products. You’ll learn how to generate concept ideas and turn them into viable solutions, gaining experience of 3D modelling and analysis tools that will help you factor in considerations including materials, manufacture, assembly, cost and performance.
- Naval Architecutre (Portsmouth, Glasgow and Barrow): Gain experience of a whole boat engineering discipline, covering all aspects of design and manufacture, right through to launch, test and commissioning. As well as computer based design work, you’ll also be involved in other activities such as computer simulation modelling and physical model tank testing.
- Noise and Vibration (Barrow): Join a specialist team of engineers, who focus on issues of radiated noise, acoustic noise and vibration. From reducing the noise profile of a new machines, to creating instrumentation rigs to cope with unique environmental test conditions, you’ll gain practical experience and exposure to advanced technologies in the field, including MeScope 3D modelling and FE analysis programme.
- Nuclear Engineer (Barrow): Become one of the Nuclear Engineers of the future with the only UK company which manufactures nuclear powered submarines. Your placements will include: nuclear safety and regulation, management of fuel on site, nuclear reactor test and commissioning; and designing and validating radiation shielding.
- Operations, Manufacturing and Production Engineer Transform (Samlesbury, Warton, Rochester, Barrow): designs into products and help our manufacturing and construction teams deliver cutting edge technology in the most effective way. You’ll be able to get involved at all levels of the business, from solving manufacturing problems on the shop floor, through to working on facility strategies or managing your own improvement projects.
- Procurement (Rochester, Portsmouth, Barrow): Working in Procurement enables you to take up a variety of roles to help ensure that to that we deliver the right products, at the right time and at the right cost to the required quality. Your role will be very varied; ranging from undertaking supplier visits to a more analytical focus of developing procurement strategies.

- Project Management (Samlesbury, Warton, Portsmouth, Broad Oak, Scotstoun, Barrow and Frimley): Take responsibility for ensuring that we deliver on our customer commitments at the right time, at the right cost and to the best possible quality. Your work will give you the breadth of experience to succeed and tasks could include controlling budgets and expenditure, covering the governance of change within projects, resourcing, fulfilling contractual requirements or interfacing with our customers. You’ll also review performance, analyse risks and take decisions to optimise project success.
- Software Engineer (Rochester, Broad Oak, Dorchester and New Malden) Create cutting edge software for our hardware and be involved in the entire lifecycle of a product, from design and development to integration. Work closely with both Electronic and Systems engineers, you’ll enable the development of complex real-world systems that have to perform perfectly every time, as the consequences of failure could be catastrophic.
- Supply Chain (Scotstoun): Supply chain management is the management of the flow of goods and services and includes all processes that transform raw materials into final products. It involves the active streamlining of a business’s supply-side activities to maximize customer value and gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Be part of the team who guarantee the continuing airworthiness of our customers’ aircraft. You’ll work at our customer air bases and with our regulatory team, and gain experience in quality system management, aircraft maintenance, training and licensing, supply chain, fleet planning and resource capability.
- Systems Engineer (Rochester, Glascoed, Cowes, Portsmouth, Broad Oak, Filton, Scotstoun and Barrow): Work in a holistic, multi-disciplinary role, focusing on the bigger picture and bridging the gaps between disciplines. Throughout the different stages of a product lifecycle, you’ll take the lead in systems integration and testing, qualification and acceptance. As well as the technical aspects of projects, you’ll also learn to consider important factors such as schedules, costs, training and environmental concerns.

- Aerospace Engineer (Samlesbury and Warton): Gain wide-ranging experience in the design, development, test, maintenance and support of fixed wing military and training aircraft systems. Disciplines you’ll cover include aerodynamics, electromagnetics, structures, integration, airworthiness, support engineering, mission systems, test engineering, flight systems and training systems integration.
- Business Development (Samlesbury and Warton): Identify, develop and win new business as part of a team with expertise in sales, marketing, customer relations, bid and proposal production, events and exhibitions. You’ll help define country and regional strategies, identify routes to market for our products and services, and gain experience of stakeholder management and building customer relationships.

Whilst on the scheme you will gain experience in one or more area including: financial accounting and reporting, management accounting and project accounting along with the chance to put theory into practice, learn from colleagues who are experts in their field, and gain insights that can only come from real world experience.

You’ll gain a unique perspective on how BAE Systems Submarines products are used and supported through life and how the decisions taken in build influence continued capability at sea.
- Product Safety (Barrow): Work at the heart of our business, ensuring complex and safety-critical products are safe and fit for purpose. Working at all stages of the product lifecycle, from identifying and analysing hazards, to developing robust controls and safety procedures, you’ll play a pivotal role in development, production and testing, as well as helping us to develop comprehensive safety management systems for entire platforms.
- Production Engineer (Barrow): As a Production Engineer Summer intern, you will have the opportunity to join a large team of highly qualified Engineers. You will contribute to supporting the ongoing Fabrication and outfitting of vessels, developing improvements to the production processes and facilities.
