The EP team caught-up with Ellisia Hobbs (Kent Business School) and Rasheed Abimbola (School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science) who have been interning with Kreston Reeves, an award winning Chartered Accountants and Financial Advisors firm.
Both Ellisia and Rasheed applied for the internship to gain practical experience in the accountancy and finance field, and over 12-weeks they have had a varied experience.
Both students have been working in the Online Outsourcing Accounting Team, where they have been focusing on utilising a range of online systems. Ellisia has been tasked with downloading invoices and reconciling these, utilising a range of software. Ellisia also worked with clients to convert them to new up-to-date systems, managing the process to help them use the latest software.
Rasheed has also been working with clients, assisting them in the process of utilising the latest systems. Beyond this, he has also been creating final accounts for limited companies, creating schedules and processing the accounts.
As a result, the students have been given real responsibility and were able to see all aspects of working in an accountancy firm.
Ellisia commented:
“I’ve enjoyed all aspects of the internship, particularly working with clients and the systems. It has been varied work…I particularly enjoyed working for Kreston Reeves, it provides the balance between being a big firm but also local.”
Rasheed also stated:
“I’ve really enjoyed the online aspect and seeing how accountancy is evolving…the internship has opened my eyes to the different options available after graduation, beyond the big London firms.”
As a result, both students are now determined to progress a career in accountancy, particularly with a more open mind in regards to working for small-medium firms.
Steven Morely, Accounts and Outsourcing Supervisor, commented:
“The internships are great as they provide us access to the latest talent graduating from the University of Kent.”
