Scaramanga Agency: Work Experience

For 2018-19 Scaramanga Agency (previously Scaramanga Marketing) offered an exclusive EP reward, with one student gaining an insight into B2B marketing.

The EP team recently caught-up with the reward winner, Megan Deefholts (School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research) and Claire Scaramanga (Marketing Director).

Megan stated that prior to her work experience, she had little knowledge about the world of marketing but through spending two weeks with industry experts, she has ‘learnt so much and…had a great time doing so.’

During her two-week period, Megan conducted market research for a client and was able to generate content ideas for their social media accounts. She also gained experience in marketing strategies and plans, gaining an understanding of the importance of ensuring each strategy is both tailored and bespoke.

Megan’s favourite task was brainstorming theme ideas for an event being organised by a client. After conducting research, she created a presentation, which was presented directly to the client.

Megan’s placement also coincided with a key transition period, with Scaramanga Marketing becoming Scaramanga Agency. This provided Megan with the opportunity to brainstorm ideas on how best to reveal the new identity, put forward fun ideas to reflect the new look.

Megan reflected positively on her overall experience, stating:

“As I am from more of a design background myself, this was not an environment I had been in before (marketing). Much of what I did at Scaramanga was new to me, so I found myself frequently asking the team lots of questions and looking to all of them for guidance. Thanks to their time and support, I have learnt so much and have had a great time doing so.”

Claire Scaramanga was also equally impressed by Megan commeting:

“[The placement went] very well. Megan worked very hard, was interested in what we do and in learning new things…We have recently won a new client and are working on the marketing strategy. Megan helped us enormously with a lot of research into potential events and publications. She also developed some excellent ideas for themes for a client exhibiting at a trade show, one of which the client is progressing.”
