Students Attend the Shepherd Neame Experience Day

On 11th June 2019, over 20 students gained the chance to visit Britain’s Oldest Brewery, Shepherd Neame.

Facilitated through the Employability Points Scheme, students gained the chance to learn about the history of the business and its current business strategy from Mark Rider, Finance and IT Director.

Students also partook in a brewery tour, which concluded with an optional tutored beer tasting session.

Following a pub-inspired lunch, students where split into groups; marketing and branding, scientific processes and architecture and property.

Here, students from the School of Architecture spent time with Martin Godden, Head of Property Services, learning about the design and layout of Shepherd Neame pubs and hotels.

Simultaneously, students from the Faculty of Sciences gained the chance to revisit the tour, which now included the chance to visit the lab and bottling plant, gaining a much greater understanding of the scientific processes involved in beer manufacturing.

Lastly, students with an interest in marketing and branding attended a workshop covering brand identity. Following this, students were tasked with creating a new campaign for promoting the brand Spitefire and the concept #teamspitfire.

This experience day was available as an EP reward, recognising students for their efforts to enhance their employability whilst studying at the University of Kent.
