Its major innovation is that art – music, street art and video/documentary – makes it possible to capture, perceive and internalize forms of knowledge, in certain cases inaccessible through the application of traditional research methods and techniques. It is through these methods that it becomes possible to understand, at times, the dynamics of dialogues between multiple and complex realities and forms of knowledge that, in their essence, exist at various levels of consciousness, temporalities and spatialities.

The methodological approaches presented here prove to be an incentive to participation, since they facilitate forms and contents of expressiveness, which, through conventional methods, would be difficult to capture.

Professor Paula Guerra is Professor in the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, Portugal.
