{"id":684,"date":"2015-12-09T11:22:28","date_gmt":"2015-12-09T11:22:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/?p=684"},"modified":"2020-03-17T12:24:55","modified_gmt":"2020-03-17T12:24:55","slug":"scholarships-for-201617","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/2015\/12\/09\/scholarships-for-201617\/","title":{"rendered":"Scholarships for Undergraduate and Postgraduate study 2016\/17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The School of Economics and the University of Kent are\u00a0offering a generous package of\u00a0scholarships for outstanding students starting their studies in 2016.<\/p>\n<h2>Undergraduate scholarships<\/h2>\n<p>The University\u00a0is offering\u00a0the Kent Scholarship for Excellence, worth \u00a32,000 a year, for students who achieve AAA at A level (or specified equivalents), or AAB at A level (or specified equivalents) where one of the subjects is Mathematics or a Modern Foreign Language. The scholarship is open to applicants from any country.<\/p>\n<p>For further information on\u00a0Undergraduate scholarships and bursaries, including those for music, sport, international students and studying abroad,\u00a0see the University&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/scholarships\/undergraduate\/index.html\">Undergraduate scholarships and bursaries<\/a> pages.<\/p>\n<h2>MSc scholarships<\/h2>\n<p>The School of Economics is offering a number of scholarships for outstanding students on MSc programmes in\u00a02016:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scholarships for Excellence &#8211; <\/strong>A number of\u00a0scholarships worth <strong>60%<\/strong> of the tuition fee for one year are available for outstanding students of Economics, either Home\/EU or Overseas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CEAS Scholarship &#8211; <\/strong>The Centre for European Agri-Environmental Studies (CEAS), is offering a one-year scholarship of <strong>\u00a33,000<\/strong> open to students applying for the MSc in Agri-Environmental Economics and Policy who have a good first degree.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Economics Alumni Scholarships\u00a0&#8211; <\/strong>Up to seven\u00a0scholarships of <strong>\u00a31,000<\/strong> each are\u00a0available for undergraduates currently in Kent\u2019s School of Economics who will graduate in July and continue with an MSc starting in September 2016. To be eligible students must achieve a final overall mark of 65% or above. These scholarships are in addition to\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/scholarships\/postgraduate\/gradschool.html\">Kent Graduate School Scholarship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The closing date for MSc scholarship applications\u00a0is\u00a027 June 2016.<\/p>\n<p>For\u00a0further information on\u00a0our MSc scholarships,\u00a0see our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/prospective\/postgraduate\/pgfunding.html\">Scholarships for MSc Taught programmes<\/a> pages.<\/p>\n<p>Postgraduate loans for up to \u00a310,000 a year are available for Master\u2019s degrees in the UK\u00a0for home and EU students.\u00a0Full details of the loans can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/scholarships\/postgraduate\/masters-loans.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>PhD scholarships<\/h2>\n<p>The School of Economics has a considerable amount of funding available for outstanding students wanting to study for a PhD, including:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Doctoral scholarships &#8211; <\/strong>The School of Economics will be awarding two types of doctoral scholarships for students beginning their PhD study in the School in September\/October 2016:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Up to four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/scholarships\/postgraduate\/50th_anniversary.html\">Vice Chancellor&#8217;s Research Scholarships<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Up to four School of Economics scholarships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Scholarships will be offered at the standard UK Research Councils&#8217; rate, which covers tuition fees at the home\/EU rate (\u00a34,052 FT) in addition to an annual maintenance stipend of \u00a314,057 per annum (2015\/16 rates).<\/p>\n<p>Successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding research potential, and will have obtained a First or good 2:1 undergraduate degree, and ordinarily an MSc with Merit or Distinction. Those awarded the scholarships will also hold <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/scholarships\/postgraduate\/gta.html\">Graduate Teaching Assistantships<\/a> that involve a limited amount of teaching of up to six hours per week across the Autumn and Spring terms.<\/p>\n<p>The closing date for applications is 31 March 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>School international scholarships &#8211; <\/strong>We will be awarding up to three international scholarships for entry in September\/October 2016. These are only available to overseas students and cover the difference between home and overseas tuition fees (equivalent to \u00a38,838 at the 2015\/16 rate). It is expected that\u00a0an international scholarship would be awarded\u00a0alongside a doctoral scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>The closing date for applications is 31 March 2016.<\/p>\n<p>For further information on PhD scholarships, see our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/prospective\/research\/funding.html\">Funding and Teaching Opportunities <\/a>page.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>NB You should be aware that none of these scholarships cover the full cost of studying at Kent, and that you will need to have additional sources of funding in order to cover your tuition fees and\/or accommodation, travel and living expenses. All scholarships take the form of a School payment towards tuition fees, and will be paid once the recipient is fully registered at the University of Kent.
