{"id":5687,"date":"2024-01-12T16:31:40","date_gmt":"2024-01-12T16:31:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/?p=5687"},"modified":"2024-02-05T10:15:31","modified_gmt":"2024-02-05T10:15:31","slug":"from-movie-nights-to-industry-insights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/2024\/01\/12\/from-movie-nights-to-industry-insights\/","title":{"rendered":"From Movie Nights to Industry Insights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Happy New Year from everyone here at the School of Economics!<\/p>\n<p>We caught up with Victoria Ng Wan Ying, a final year economics student, who has been telling us all about the exciting events that took place during the Autumn term by the Economics Society:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The society has organised a good mix of academic and social events during the term.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>We kicked off the term with a movie night, followed by a quiz night, a year-in-industry panel and speaker from JPM, a CMA recruitment talk and ended off with a pub quiz.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The film night included a screening of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1596363\/\"><em>The Big Short<\/em><\/a> (2015), a film that exposes the 2008 financial crisis through eccentric characters predicting, profiting, and exposing the housing market collapse.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/files\/2024\/01\/EconBlog-The-Big-Short.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5701 \" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/files\/2024\/01\/EconBlog-The-Big-Short.png\" alt=\"a still image of Jeremy Strong, Rafe Spall, Hamish Linklater, Steve Carell, Jeffry Griffin and Ryan Gosling from the film &quot;The Big Short&quot;. \" width=\"792\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019ve also posted our first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@kent.economics\"><strong>TikTok video<\/strong><\/a> and sent out newsletters that contain information on internships and a research piece to society members.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Victoria Ng Wan Ying\u00a0studies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/109\/economics\">BSc Economics<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year from everyone here at the School of Economics!
