(not completely anyway).<\/p>\n<h2>Econ-Wrapped 2022!<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4384\/quantitative-tightening-mandates-and-expectations\"><strong>MMF Conference<\/strong><\/a> gathered here over 100 delegates from 85 different academic departments across the world, holding 32 parallel sessions and 3 special sessions throughout its 3 days.<\/p>\n<p>We hosted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4427\/work-hard-play-hard-the-annual-degree-apprentices-residential-week-2022\"><strong>270 Degree Apprentice Economists <\/strong><\/a>on their annual residential.<\/p>\n<p>The Bank of England published its 1st ever book, written by Kent Alumnus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguin.co.uk\/books\/442240\/cant-we-just-print-more-money-by-england-rupal-patel-jack-meaning-and-the-bank-of\/9781847943385\"><strong>Jack Meaning<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We had 3 talks by Professor Jagjit Chadha: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4384\/quantitative-tightening-mandates-and-expectations\"><strong>MMF<\/strong> <strong>Conference<\/strong><\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4427\/work-hard-play-hard-the-annual-degree-apprentices-residential-week-2022\"><strong>DAP residential<\/strong><\/a>, and most recently on the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4668\/going-off-piste-with-jagjit-chadha\">Cost of Living<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We held 4 graduations celebrating the Class of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/3924\/belated-celebrations\"><strong>2020<\/strong><\/a>, <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4055\/celebrating-the-class-of-2021-finally\"><strong>2021<\/strong><\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4633\/a-class-of-2022-act\"><strong>2022!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There were 41 days in 2022 when women effectively <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4645\/why-women-are-no-better-off-having-a-baby-now-than-in-the-70s\"><strong>stopped earning<\/strong><\/a> relative to men.<\/p>\n<p>87% of our publications were rated as world leading in this year&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4047\/economics-see-huge-improvement-in-ref-2021\"><strong>REF<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4293\/kent-economics-undergraduate-research-journal-volume-1-2022\"><strong>1<sup>st<\/sup> ever volume<\/strong><\/a> of the Kent Economics Undergraduate Research Journal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"overlay__heading fadein is-fadedin\">The Development Economics Research Centre at Kent had its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4103\/derecks-third-workshop-microeconomic-approaches-to-development-economics\"><strong>3rd workshop<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There were\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/3770\/the-kennedy-casino-night-a-full-house-and-royal-flush-of-an-event\">100 attendees<\/a><\/strong> at the Kennedy casino night.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/3949\/hat-trick-the-economics-society-wins-academic-society-of-the-year-for-the-third-year-running\">Hatrick<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; The Economics Society won society of the year for 3rd year in a row.<\/p>\n<p>We sent 12 students on their <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4112\/and-theyre-off\">Year in Industry<\/a><\/strong> placement.<\/p>\n<p>We wrote 102 blogs this year, but with one blog, it was love at first read. Our most read blog was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/3852\/ukranian-crisis-what-can-you-do-to-help\">Ukranian Crisis: What can you do to help?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>We explored many categories, but here were our top 5:<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/files\/2022\/12\/spotify-wrapped-3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4800\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/files\/2022\/12\/spotify-wrapped-3.png\" alt=\"spotify wrapped (3)\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Our year can&#8217;t be contained in a playlist (of blogs), but we tried anyway.<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/3688\/why-economics-and-data-science-will-help-you-understand-the-world-we-live-in\"><strong>January<\/strong> <\/a>we understood the world we live in<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/3770\/the-kennedy-casino-night-a-full-house-and-royal-flush-of-an-event\"><strong>February<\/strong><\/a> we didn&#8217;t let the house win<\/li>\n<li>We lent a hand to Ukraine in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/3893\/homes-for-ukraine-refugees-scheme\"><strong>March<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/3951\/memes-contest-engaging-students-through-innovative-teaching\"><strong>April<\/strong> <\/a>we paid for drinks with memes<\/li>\n<li>We won Above and Beyond Awards in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4057\/going-above-and-beyond\"><strong>May<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>For Pride in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4149\/pride-month-researching-sexual-minority-disparities-in-earnings\"><strong>June<\/strong> <\/a>we researched sexual minority disparities in earnings<\/li>\n<li>We graduated in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4199\/celebrating-the-class-of-2022\">July<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>We launched our student research journal in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4293\/kent-economics-undergraduate-research-journal-volume-1-2022\"><strong>August<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4427\/work-hard-play-hard-the-annual-degree-apprentices-residential-week-2022\"><strong>September<\/strong> <\/a>we worked hard and played hard<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4578\/are-emily-and-greg-more-employable-than-lakisha-and-jamal-do-employers-discriminate-on-the-basis-of-race\"><strong>October<\/strong> <\/a>we looked at black outcomes for Black History Month.<\/li>\n<li>We stepped into the Dragon&#8217;s Den in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4608\/dragons-den-training-to-tender-for-research-project-with-the-green-infrastructure-framework\"><strong>November<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>And in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/news\/4706\/the-chill-zone-a-welcome-week-must\"><strong>December<\/strong> <\/a>we put ourselves out there, making new friends via Mario Kart!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>A look ahead<\/h2>\n<p>Apply for a research scholarship before <strong>20th January 2023<\/strong>!
