{"id":4328,"date":"2022-08-31T16:38:55","date_gmt":"2022-08-31T15:38:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/?p=4328"},"modified":"2022-12-20T10:32:08","modified_gmt":"2022-12-20T10:32:08","slug":"its-all-about-inflation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/2022\/08\/31\/its-all-about-inflation\/","title":{"rendered":"The One About Inflation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/maghic\/\">The Macroeconomics, Growth and History Centre<\/a> (MaGHiC) are excited to welcome more than a hundred delegates on campus for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmf.ac.uk\/conference\/2022-conference\/\">53rd Annual MMF Conference<\/a> on campus (5-7 September). This is the main UK conference in Macroeconomics and has a long-standing tradition among both academics and policy members, platforming four keynote speakers, and three special sessions.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8216;This year&#8217;s conference is all about inflation, with top current and former policymakers and academics speaking about the current global inflation challenges.&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/people\/440\/duncan-alfred\">Dr Alfred Duncan<\/a>, one of the programme committee explained &#8216;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">I&#8217;m most looking forward to\u202f<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">MPC at 25: Lessons Learned from 25 Years of the Monetary Policy Committee<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">, where former Bank of England Governor Mervyn King and Former Deputy Governor Paul Tucker discuss what we&#8217;ve learned from 25 years of Bank of England independence.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8216;Three of our four keynotes are on inflation, including one from current Bank of England MPC member <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankofengland.co.uk\/about\/people\/catherine-mann\/biography\">Catherine Mann<\/a>. We also have a special session on Quantitative Tightening, which will be one of the major challenges facing the Bank of England as they tackle the UK&#8217;s inflation problem.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I\u2019m particularly interested in sessions on tax policies.&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/people\/447\/jiang-wei\">Dr Wei Jiang<\/a> told us &#8216;Fiscal policy is a global focus by both academics and policy makers after the breakout of COVID-19 pandemic.
