Not because of her grades, but because she had been focused on pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering and part of her heart wasn\u2019t in it. She had applied to study Civil Engineering at a different university and while she had been accepted, she didn\u2019t feel passionate about her original plan.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0&#8216;I am so glad I followed my instinct, as it\u2019s got me to where I am today.\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Economics was a subject she wanted to pursue instead and was recommended by friends that Kent would be a good choice for this subject. She looked into applying for Kent through Clearing, and she soon enrolled to study (BA Hons) Economics and Management.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4278\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4278\" style=\"width: 1460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/files\/2022\/08\/lydia-and-luke-crop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4278\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/files\/2022\/08\/lydia-and-luke-crop.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1460\" height=\"1107\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4278\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lydia and Director of Undergraduate Recruitment, Dr Luke Buchanan-Hodgman on an open day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lydia relished every opportunity at Kent, from being involved in mathematics and statistics clinics, to being a student ambassador here at the University\u2019s School of Economics. She also took part in Kent\u2019s i-Teams, a university-based programme connecting students from different academic disciplines to tackle real world business challenges. She went on to be an intern at Investtech, which was a stepping stone for her onward career.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4281\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4281\" style=\"width: 1719px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/files\/2022\/08\/Lydia-graduation-crop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-4281 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/files\/2022\/08\/Lydia-graduation-crop.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1719\" height=\"1316\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4281\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lydia&#8217;s graduation ceremony at Canterbury Cathedral, with Chancellor Gavin Esler.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lydia graduated in July 2022, and has been hired as an Analyst for\u00a0investment management firm Brooks Macdonald in London.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I honestly believe that Kent prepared me for the real world. Using economic theory, soft skills and networking.
