This is how you can be part of it.&#8217;  We met with Dr Maria Garcia-Alonso, the Economics Director of Studies to ask her about her role. <\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Maria, what does an Economics Director of Studies do?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In short, I look after the delivery of Education in the School. Making sure everyone enjoys teaching and learning.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sounds\u00a0exhausting!\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A\u00a0bit\u2026 but I really enjoy talking to students and colleagues and helping whenever I can.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">So you also get involved with Student Voice Forums\u2026 what is that about?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">They\u00a0are the most important part of my econ DoS job. They are formal feedback meetings. In them, econ-student reps raise any feedback related to delivery of education on behalf of other students. The Senior Tutor (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/people\/431\/allouch-nizar\">Nizar\u00a0Allouch<\/a>) and the Chief Examiner (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/people\/443\/gosling-amanda\">Amanda Gosling<\/a>) are also there). As soon as the meeting is over, we race to resolve any matter arising! We meet twice a term.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And what if something comes up between meetings?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We still race to\u00a0resolve\u00a0and we report it on the following meeting.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And what about\u00a0those end of term\u00a0module evaluations then?\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">They are very important to module convenors and seminar\u00a0leaders,\u00a0I know my teaching delivery has improved over the years thanks to written comments on module evaluations.\u00a0Also\u00a0PH D student seminar leaders use them as evidence for quality of teaching, very important for them in the job market and part of their training process as they grow in their roles. As econ DoS I also read all the school module evaluations to ensure we have not missed anything at Student Voice Forums, also to share good ideas among colleagues and support everyone.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Give us an example of feedback you have received recently!\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Everyone says I speak too fast\u2026 I try to slow down\u2026 every year.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The next SVF is on Wednesday 17th November.
