Our new Outreach programme, designed by students to teach everyday finances to 16-18 year olds, is ready to roll out through schools across the country. <\/p>\n
Suitable for students in years 10 \u2013 13 and o<\/span>pen to all budding Economists, Business Entrepreneurs and anyone wanting to gain a better understanding of personal finances and how to keep a handle on them as they approach independent living, ‘Everyday Economics’ is ready to roll out across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n ‘Leaving home and managing your finances can be pretty daunting. We’re\u00a0<\/i> going to show you how student loans actually work, why you should <\/i>care about inflation, and how you can decipher the amount of interest your\u00a0<\/i> savings account pays. We were surprised by what we found when we looked\u00a0<\/i><\/strong>into it.<\/strong>‘ <\/span><\/i>Joel Pointon, Final year student, BSc Economics\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Everyday Economics<\/span><\/i> is designed and delivered by final year <\/span>Economics<\/span><\/i>\u00a0students Joel Pointon and Nick Hutchinson. As they prepare to head off into the world of work, they were inspired to share some practical skills that have helped them make the leap from school to everyday life at university.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Workshops will\u00a0<\/span>guide students how to manage their first wages, outgoings, and loans to help them step into their future. The sessions utilise Microsoft Excel, an essential tool for any potential economics undergraduate student.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Main skills and knowledge students will gain:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span>Other skills include:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The programme has been designed with flexibility in mind and to suit the busy school timetable. The sessions are split into 5 x 1hr sessions which can either be delivered as standalone workshops or combined as part of a day-long activity.
