{"id":264,"date":"2011-03-30T14:33:09","date_gmt":"2011-03-30T14:33:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/?p=264"},"modified":"2015-05-11T12:57:02","modified_gmt":"2015-05-11T11:57:02","slug":"academics-landmark-book-gets-40th-anniversary-facelift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/2011\/03\/30\/academics-landmark-book-gets-40th-anniversary-facelift\/","title":{"rendered":"Academic&#8217;s landmark book gets 40th anniversary facelift"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/files\/2014\/10\/apt_book_cover.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-265 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics\/files\/2014\/10\/apt_book_cover.jpg\" alt=\"apt_book_cover\" width=\"155\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a>A landmark book on the role economics can play in developing nations has been revised by the School&#8217;s Professor Tony Thirlwall \u2013 forty years after he first wrote it.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Thirlwall&#8217;s Economics of Development is now in its ninth edition after first appearing in 1972.<\/p>\n<p>Described in reviews as a &#8216;landmark text&#8217;, the revised book includes new materials and case studies to provide students with an updated overview of the economic aspects of growth and development.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Thirlwall said: &#8216;It is very gratifying to complete this ninth edition, which is the most thorough revision to date, some 40 years after the first edition appeared.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I&#8217;ve included new material and data to help provide students interested in economic development with a clear and comprehensive overview of the subject.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The new (ninth) edition, of Tony Thirlwall&#8217;s textbook on economic development will be published by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.palgrave.com\/products\/title.aspx?PID=321500\" target=\"_blank\">Palgrave-Macmillan<\/a> on 8 April with the new title <em>Economics of Development: Theory and Evidence<\/em>, with new chapters on institutions and economic development and on the functioning of land, labour and credit markets in rural societies.
