MSc Economics student, Mpho Kgoreletso, embarks on a research-driven adventure in Bangladesh and shares the unforgettable experience:
“As an MSc Economics student at the University of Kent, I had the opportunity to engage in a short-term exchange program to Bangladesh, funded by the institution and supported by North South University. This beneficial experience came at the ideal moment, providing a much-needed break from the pressure of exams while also providing a dynamic platform to work on my dissertation research.
The program considerably enhanced my academic journey and gave crucial insights into the agricultural landscape of Bangladesh. From the warm welcome upon arrival to the insightful interactions with esteemed professors, my time in Dhaka was unforgettable. Conducting research on “The impact of Agricultural Extension Services on productivity and income among smallholder farmers in Bangladesh,” along with exposure to Bangladesh culture and society, improved my understanding of the complexities of agricultural development, particularly for Bangladesh, a country that is highly dependent on agriculture.
My love of travel and adventure matched wonderfully with this exchange program, which allowed me to immerse myself in a new culture while advancing my academic ambitions. The opportunity to do research in Bangladesh, together with the ability to explore the country’s unique culture, resulted in an enriching and unforgettable experience.
The exchange program helped me make significant relationships with professionals, expanding my academic and professional network. Engaging with organizations like the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Proshika NGO, and the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) gave a holistic view of the agriculture sector, which was extremely relevant to my research topic.
I am deeply thankful to the University of Kent for this wonderful experience. The knowledge and experiences obtained during this exchange have given me a solid basis for my future career in economics. I highly recommend this program to other students seeking to broaden their horizon, explore new places and make a meaningful impact.”
