However, you hear horror stories concerning things found on <em>Google<\/em> and want to<strong> make sure that this article comes from a reputable journal<\/strong>. How do you find out?<\/p>\n<p>The most effective way to approach this is to use the <strong><em>Scopus<\/em><\/strong> database (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/library\/your-digital-library\/digital-resources-directory\/279\/scopus\">https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/library\/your-digital-library\/digital-resources-directory\/279\/scopus<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Getting a journal into Scopus is like a restaurant trying to earn a Michelin star.<\/strong> You can&#8217;t just pay a fee to get in; you must pass a strict review by an independent panel of experts called the <strong>Content Selection and Advisory Board (CSAB)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><u>How to use Scopus for evaluating a journal<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Within <em>Scopus<\/em>, select <strong>Sources<\/strong> from the top right-hand menu<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong><em>Title<\/em><\/strong> from the blue drop-down menu by the top search box<\/li>\n<li><strong>Type the name of the journal<\/strong> into the search box that begins <em>Enter title <\/em>and click on <em>Find sources <\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Click<\/strong> on the <strong>relevant journal title<\/strong> in the results list<\/li>\n<li>We can now look at how the journal is <strong>scored <\/strong>and <strong>ranked, <\/strong><em>e.g., Artificial Intelligence Review<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-220\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/economics-library-guide\/files\/2026\/08\/RANKING-NOTES-SCOPUS.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"996\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We can now determine that the journal <em>Artificial Intelligence Review <\/em>is listed in Scopus as being in the top 1-2% of its field, with its articles being used heavily within the academic community. Therefore, <strong>this journal is worth using<\/strong>!<br \/>\nConversely, if the journal you discover is not listed in <em>Scopus<\/em>, <strong>proceed with caution<\/strong>.
