Networking

When it comes to job hunting the age old phrase of “it’s not what you know, but who you know” always appears to come up. Networking is a fantastic way of making contacts within organisations that interest you. These contacts can be a valuable resource when you are job hunting and could potentially lead you to hearing about jobs which haven’t been advertised publicly. Indeed, up to 60% of job vacancies are not openly advertised (http://careers.theguardian.com/careers-blog/how-to-find-unadvertised-jobs).

With this in mind the School of Economics is organising a networking event for current students to meet some of our recent alumni. This will be a great opportunity for our students to hone their networking skills and also chat to recent Economics graduates about life after graduating and get tips on applying for jobs.

This will be held on Tuesday 31st March from 7pm to 9pm in the third floor bar of the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury. There will be a free drink and nibbles will also be provided.

We have a number of alumni attending who are currently working for Deloitte, Baker Tilly, Factset, Bloomberg, Transport for London and Banor Capital.

In order to register please email Katie Marshall (k.marshall@kent.ac.uk) by Friday 27th March.
