The Government Economic Service: Economist Fast Stream Scheme for 2016 will be open for applications on Tuesday 1st September.
The Government Economic Service (GES) aims to recruit around 180 fast stream Assistant Economists across some 25 government departments for appointments starting in summer/autumn 2016. Opportunities will be available in London, Bristol, Sheffield, Leeds, Liverpool, Newport, Newcastle, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Titchfield.
For candidates who are available to start earlier, it may be possible to offer immediate temporary appointments to those who pass the Economic Assessment Centre in October/November 2015.
Candidates must have, or hope to obtain a first or upper second class honours degree in economics or a postgraduate degree in economics. At least 50% of the degree course modules must be in economics. They must have studied both macro and microeconomics to qualify.
For those with a 2.2 degree or insufficient economics in their first degree, the postgraduate degree must be in straight economics.
