Stained-Glass Project (Hannah Kingsman & Sarah Swift)

Our project consisted of a stained glass window design, painted on a sheet of glass, which showcased our depiction of the moral play, Everyman. We chose to do this project because we established early on that we both liked to be creative and enjoyed learning about medieval stained glass on the module. Also, with Canterbury Cathedral on our door step, the opportunity to explore and research some of the stunning glass within it seemed too good an opportunity to miss! We chose the moral play of Everyman because of its poignancy and because its moral message remains applicable to a modern audience. We hoped to find out more about the iconography used in stained glass and wanted to explore the significance of colour and the symbolism implied by specific colours. The play itself and the message it portrays influenced every aspect of the piece, from the characters included to the layout of the window itself. Please see our presentation slides for pictures and bullet point explanations of our piece.
