Members of The Other Side of STEM share their reasons for setting up the network and their current campaign to highlight the variety of hobbies and interests that STEM students enjoy. <\/p>\n

Kent Societies Join Together<\/h3>\n

A couple of years ago, a paper was published by Elsevier <\/span>(<\/span>https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/j.jvs.2019.10.069<\/span><\/a>) <\/span>analysing<\/span> the <\/span>behaviour<\/span> of young vascular surgeons <\/span>o<\/span>n social media. Th<\/span>is<\/span> paper <\/span>was fully<\/span> retracted<\/span> in October 2020<\/span>, but the <\/span>stigma attached to STEM degrees is <\/span>still <\/span>prevalent in our society. Science <\/span>might be our career choice, but there are multiples activities that help us d<\/span>e-<\/span>stress w<\/span>hilst<\/span> remaining mentally productive, enhan<\/span>cing<\/span> our physical and mental health, and in many cases, provi<\/span>ding<\/span> us with transferable skills.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kent Societies Join Together<\/h3>\n

In response, societies at Kent have joined together to celebrate our hobbies, talents and abilities. We started to receive posts the 5<\/span>th<\/span> of March, and it hasn\u2019t stopped! The final date to post your entries is the 2 April 2021, when we will create a video with all the participants and do a giveaway with more than \u00a3100 worth of Amazon vouchers!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Meet Biochemistry student, Irene<\/h3>\n
