At the Open Day on Saturday 6th July, we’ll be offering subject talks in Digital Media and Engineering providing you with information on our degree programmes, tours of our facilities and the chance for you to meet with our current students and staff.

Digital Media
Learn how the giants of the industry put the magic into the movies. You will have a chance to learn the same techniques as those used at world leading VFX houses such as “Industrial Light and Magic” and “Framestore” in a practical introduction to the VFX pipeline using assets from the latest Star Wars movies! Try your hand at compositing a movie shot, using industry standard software and skills.

Engineering
Modern technology plays a vital role in our daily lives and the engineering sector as a whole has shaped modern society and personal lives in a way that no other discipline has ever done before, e.g. renewable energy, sanitation, mobile phone technology and the internet revolution. Engineering is behind everything, from your smartphone to the shoes on your feet!  Learn more about how robotics, assistive technologies and mechanical engineering can make a difference to the world.

The School of Physical Sciences:

For those interested in Astronomy, Space Science and Astrophysics, Chemistry, Forensics or Physics, we offer a  range of talks and practical events. Those fascinated by forensic science can put on a crime scene suit to gather evidence in our purpose-built crime scene house, while anyone interested in Chemistry can take a tour of our fantastic labs and equipment or attend a talk from one of our world-leading researchers.
