{"id":661,"date":"2014-08-28T14:53:15","date_gmt":"2014-08-28T13:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/development\/?p=661"},"modified":"2014-08-28T14:53:15","modified_gmt":"2014-08-28T13:53:15","slug":"invitation-to-statistics-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/development\/2014\/08\/28\/invitation-to-statistics-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"Invitation to Statistics workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Kent\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/qstep\/index.html\">Q-Step Centre<\/a> provides training in how numbers inform social research at all levels of statistical complexity within the Social Sciences, and aims to tackle head-on the perceived difficulty and irrelevance of statistics by hosting various programmes, activities and events.<\/p>\n<p>With a focus on crime statistics, the Q-Step Centre is hosting a two-part workshop for anyone interested in improving their ability to understand the use and abuse of statistics and numbers in our everyday lives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/qstep\/news-events\/events.html?eid=8E821655-944A-4C35-94C9-ED9F93783DBB&amp;view_by=day&amp;date=20140916&amp;category=&amp;tag=\">The first workshop<\/a> will be held on <strong>Tuesday 16 September from 6pm to 8 pm<\/strong> and will include a presentation by Professor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr\/staff\/academic\/stevens.html\">Alex Stevens, from the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research<\/a>, who will present examples of how research can be used and abused.<\/p>\n<p>The two workshops will improve participants&#8217; understanding of how to analyse and interpret what is often presented as hard statistical facts.
