{"id":578,"date":"2014-08-01T10:02:07","date_gmt":"2014-08-01T09:02:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/development\/?p=578"},"modified":"2014-08-01T10:05:49","modified_gmt":"2014-08-01T09:05:49","slug":"new-graduates-embark-on-an-african-adventure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/development\/2014\/08\/01\/new-graduates-embark-on-an-african-adventure\/","title":{"rendered":"New graduates embark on an African adventure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Matt Levett and Chris Detsicas, who both graduated from Kent in July 2014 with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science with a Year in Industry, will be embarking on a three-week trip to Africa as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dofe.org\/\">Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s Gold Award programme.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The trip will include an expedition on foot along the coast from South Africa to Mozambique, visiting a school and orphanage, taking part in a game ranger basic skills course and living on one rand per day (equivalent to 5p).<\/p>\n<p>The Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s Award is a charity which enables young people between the ages of 14-24 to develop skills for life and work and to achieve their full potential, irrespective of their personal or financial circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>The programme is composed of four sections: volunteering, physical, skills and expedition.
