{"id":4559,"date":"2024-04-30T16:56:36","date_gmt":"2024-04-30T15:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/development\/?p=4559"},"modified":"2024-05-01T09:16:47","modified_gmt":"2024-05-01T08:16:47","slug":"national-gardening-week-help-us-grow-a-new-therapy-programme-at-the-parkinsons-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/development\/2024\/04\/30\/national-gardening-week-help-us-grow-a-new-therapy-programme-at-the-parkinsons-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"National Gardening Week: Help us grow a new therapy programme at the Parkinson&#8217;s Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This National Gardening Week we&#8217;re celebrating the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/parkinsons\">Parkinson\u2019s Centre for Integrated Therapy&#8217;s<\/a> newly-launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/parkinsons\/timetable\">social therapeutic horticulture programme<\/a>, which aims to reduce some of the stress and anxieties that are common challenges for those living with Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Horticultural Therapy uses the power of gardening to improve the physical and mental well-being of people with Parkinson\u2019s disease. Studies have shown that working in the garden can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Enhance motor skills:<\/strong> Activities like raking, planting and weeding can improve dexterity, coordination and balance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Boost mood and cognitive function:<\/strong> Spending time outdoors in nature has a well-documented positive impact on mental health.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promote social interaction:<\/strong> Gardening provides a fantastic opportunity for people with Parkinson\u2019s and their carers to connect and participate in a shared activity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To make this programme a success, we need your help!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To support this initiative, we\u2019re in need of gardening equipment. If you have anything you can spare to donate to the centre it can help to make a significant difference. Our aim is to ensure that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can experience the joy of gardening and the profound benefits it brings to our lives.<\/p>\n<p>Please reach out to <a href=\"mailto:giving@kent.ac.uk\">giving@kent.ac.uk<\/a> if you are able to donate any of the items listed below.
