{"id":3364,"date":"2022-02-03T08:49:19","date_gmt":"2022-02-03T08:49:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/development\/?p=3364"},"modified":"2022-03-09T13:14:31","modified_gmt":"2022-03-09T13:14:31","slug":"research-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/development\/2022\/02\/03\/research-opportunity\/","title":{"rendered":"Take part in a neurostimulation research study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have an opportunity for people <strong>with<\/strong> <strong>and without<\/strong> Parkinson\u2019s to take part in some research testing the effectiveness of a potential non-invasive stimulation device for Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>PhD Researcher Jade Fawkes from the University of Kent is interested in investigating the effect of a non-invasive way of stimulating brain cells &#8211;\u00a0 called galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS). The researchers want to understand how this device might\u00a0 change brain activity, behaviour and impact symptoms of Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is involved?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Attending 3 separate sessions at the University of Kent. This will involve answering questionnaires, carrying out simple physical activities and taking part in sessions where sticky patches will be applied to behind the ears to deliver gentle electrical stimulation .<\/p>\n<p>Each session should take approximately 2 hours to complete. For more information, please read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parkinsons.org.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-01\/Participant%20Information%20Sheet%20Final%20PDF.pdf\">Participant Information Sheet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who do the researchers need?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>40 people (20 with Parkinson\u2019s and 20 without) aged 18 years or over who have no skin abrasions or lesions behind the ears, no metallic objects (such as shrapnel, surgical clips or fragments from welding or metalwork) in their head or electronic implants in their body.
