<\/a><\/p>\nSpecialist molecular biology equipment will be loaned to\u00a0boost the capacity in NHS labs<\/strong>\u00a0to carry out more tests for COVID-19 and\u00a0detect infected samples<\/strong>.<\/p>\n More than 30 academics, postdoctoral researchers and PhD students from the School have\u00a0volunteered to help<\/strong>\u00a0perform testing at hospitals in the county.<\/p>\n Professor Dan Mulvihill<\/a>, Head of the School of Biosciences, said: \u2018We are in a\u00a0privileged position<\/strong>\u00a0to help the NHS and\u00a0offer resource\u00a0<\/strong>to help fight this virus. Our volunteers will use their skills to work alongside NHS workers during this time of need and\u00a0hope to make a difference<\/strong>.\u2019<\/p>\n Dr Jill Shepherd<\/a>, Programme Director for Biomedical Science within the School of Biosciences, said: \u2018The first thing we wanted to do was to see how we could\u00a0best support our NHS colleagues<\/strong>.
