\"Sarah<\/a>At the end of last term, Season\u2019s Greetings cards were sold to raise vital funds to help change the lives of those with neurodisabilities and we are delighted to announce that we raised \u00a3394 through this initiative.<\/p>\n

Professor David Wilkinson from the School of Psychology is leading a research group that has pioneered and shown the amazing potential benefits of therapeutic neurostimulation. This is a technique to stimulate the brain from the outside (i.e. no surgery), using tested devices developed in our laboratory to ease the symptoms of brain injury such as Parkinson\u2019s disease, stroke and dementia.<\/p>\n

We are raising \u00a3165,000 to establish the world\u2019s first neurostimulation service here at the University of Kent which would not only provide public access to our experimental therapy but also help the University meet its civic mission, ensure the longevity of the programme and provide inspirational training opportunities for our students who would help run it.<\/p>\n

We would like to thank everybody who supported this fundraising initiative and take this opportunity to offer our most sincere thanks to Carbasse Implant and Dental Centre for their sponsorship of this activity.<\/p>\n

The family run dental practice based in Whitstable kindly sponsored the cards, as Sarah Carbasse, the Practice Manager, has witnessed first-hand the effects that neurodisabilities can have. She said:<\/p>\n

\u201cCarbasse Implant and Dental Centre was delighted to get involved with this initiative by proudly sponsoring the cards as my father suffered a stroke in 2017 and so I know first-hand the devastation a brain injury can cause a family.\u00a0 To know that academics at the University of Kent are researching non-invasive ways to improve the lives of millions of people suffering with brain injury is a huge comfort.\u00a0 We were thrilled to learn that the team managed to raise \u00a3394 to go towards establishing the world\u2019s first Neurostimulation Service to help people like my father.\u201d<\/p>\n
