A Centre for Philanthropy Beacon Project book, telling the untold story of gifts to the University, will be launched at a conference this summer.<\/p>\n
To launch the book \u2013 provisionally entitled Kent: The Philanthropy Story<\/em> \u2013 the University is holding a conference, titled \u2018Understanding Philanthropy\u2019, at Kent on Monday 29 June 2015.<\/p>\n The conference will welcome speakers from across the globe, both practitioners and theorists, to examine the meaning and mission of philanthropy in contemporary society. Keynote speakers include Professor Michael Moody, author of Understanding Philanthropy<\/em>, and Dr Ren\u00e9 Bekkers, co-author of A Literature Review of Empirical Studies of Philanthropy. <\/em>The conference is open to all, but registration <\/i><\/a> is essential.<\/p>\n In addition, the Centre will be holding two debates on the role of philanthropy in Higher Education, one on our Canterbury campus on 10 March and one on our Medway campus on 10 April. The initiative consists of 12 innovative projects which will explore areas where the University might be able to go forward in new and enterprising ways; and help to shape its trajectory over the next 50 years.
