Celebrating Excellence: Dr Teddy Church Prize Giving

Today marked a significant moment at the University of Kent as we celebrated the inaugural presentation of the Dr Teddy Church Prize in History. Richard Wingett and Peter Hazelwood from the Kent Museum of Freemasonry joined us to honour the outstanding achievements of two of our first-year students from the School of History.

The Dr Teddy Church Prize, established by the Museum to commemorate the legacy of Dr Church – a dedicated GP and passionate collector of Kentish history -recognises the hard work and academic excellence of our students. Dr Church was not only devoted to his patients but also fervently pursued the rich history of Kent, amassing a remarkable collection of historical texts that he generously bequeathed to the Kent Museum of Freemasonry.

In the spirit of Dr Church’s commitment to education and history, this prestigious award is designed to inspire and encourage future historians. Today, we proudly awarded the Dr Teddy Church Prize to Lukas Kumin and Josh Skeete, who achieved the best and second-best overall performances in their year.  We are immensely grateful for the generous support that makes this prize possible.

Congratulations to Lukas and Josh for their outstanding achievements and a heartfelt thank you to the Kent Museum of Freemasonry and the Church family for their generous support. Together, we honour the past whilst inspiring our students to uncover the stories that shape our understanding of history.
