We are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership between the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy (PCIT) and Fenwick Canterbury which was launched on Thursday 2nd November 2023 at a private event in store.
At the event Professor David Wilkinson (Director of PCIT), Claire Bogan (Store Director, Fenwick Canterbury) and Katie Skelton (Occupational Therapy Lead at PCIT) spoke about the importance of access to stress free shopping, adaptable clothing and other specialised products that help simplify and enrich daily life for those living with Parkinson’s disease.
Fenwick Canterbury has committed to offering bespoke health and beauty treatments at PCIT for those with Parkinson’s and will also offer regular out-of-hours shopping events to make shopping safer and more enjoyable for those with neurological conditions. The Team at PCIT will provide training for staff in how to provide the best shopping experience for them and their families.
Professor Wilkinson said “We are thrilled to have formed this groundbreaking collaboration with Fenwick Canterbury as it will have a positive impact on the lives of many people with Parkinson’s, helping to improve their symptoms, reduce stress and boost their mental health. Many of the symptoms experienced by those with this diagnosis can make it difficult for them to go shopping or have beauty treatments which can lead to isolation and social withdrawal. This new partnership will make it possible for people with Parkinson’s to shop and have beauty treatments in a relaxed and supportive environment, outside of regular opening hours. This will help to reduce their anxiety and stress and make it easier for them to access the essential goods and services they need. I am confident that this new partnership will make a real difference to the lives of people with Parkinson’s and their families and we thank Fenwick Canterbury for getting involved.”
Clare Bogan added: “Fenwick Canterbury is incredibly proud to have formed a partnership with the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy, it has really opened our eyes to the challenges faced by people living with Parkinson’s and it has motivated us to make changes to improve their shopping experience. By opening outside of regular hours, we can provide people with Parkinson’s with a stress-free shopping experience. We can also source items for them and deliver them to their homes, making it even easier for them to get the things they need. We are committed to making our store a more inclusive and accessible place for everyone and this partnership is an important step in that direction.”
The event also included a wine tasting session lead by Janina Doyle from Balfour, product exhibitions, goodie bags and a discussion on how this partnership can best serve those with Parkinson’s.
