On Sunday 3rd September, Jess Brogan and Sarah Frow will be running a half marathon (13.1 miles) along the Pilgrims Way between Wye and Canterbury to raise vital funds for the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy and we sincerely thank them for supporting our work in this most adventurous way.
It will be almost 2 years since Sarah’s diagnosis of Young-onset Parkinson’s (YOPD) and it isn’t as rare as you may think, 1 in 10 people diagnosed with Parkinson’s are classed as having YOPD (under the age of 50).
Jess said “I want to help Sarah increase awareness and understanding of YOPD so that everyone affected has access to the right treatment and support. To this end I am fundraising for the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy where Sarah not only challenges her own condition but also helps others with this cruel disease, inspiring them to keep active and providing unparalleled understanding and support.
I specifically chose a running challenge because Sarah is slowing the progression of her symptoms through running and exercise. She continues to set herself goals and push her body to extremes and so I will try to do likewise in the hope of raising a few pounds!”
If you would like to join Jess and Sarah for this challenge please contact parkinsons@kent.ac.uk and we will put you in touch. Alternatively, if running isn’t your thing, you can sponsor them online to help us continue our fight against Parkinson’s.
