Celebrating 60 Years of the University of Kent

We were delighted to welcome guests from across the Kent community to our 60th Anniversary Celebration and Networking Event on Tuesday 7 October, marking the beginning of a very special year for the University.

Hosted at the Gulbenkian Arts Centre, the evening brought together University staff, students, stakeholders, local businesses, corporates and community leaders to celebrate six decades of achievement and collaboration. It was a wonderful occasion to look back on how far we have come since welcoming the First 500 students in October 1965 — and to look forward to the exciting journey ahead.

Guests enjoyed a presentation from Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Georgina Randsley de Moura, who shared memories from the University’s rich history and reflected on its continuing impact — from world-leading research and student success to strong partnerships across the region. The presentation also offered a glimpse into the University’s vision for the future as we continue to inspire and connect with our community.

The evening also featured musical performances and moments of celebration, before concluding in the Colyer-Fergusson Foyer, where guests raised a glass of fizz, enjoyed nibbles and shared a slice of birthday cake to mark Kent’s 60th milestone in true celebratory style.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for the evening — including our valued partners, supporters, staff, students and friends of the University. Your continued support helps Kent thrive as a place of learning, creativity and opportunity for all.

This event marks the first in a series of special 60th Anniversary celebrations taking place throughout the year. We look forward to sharing more moments of reflection, gratitude and connection as we celebrate 60 years of making a difference together.
