On Sunday 28th September, under blue skies and the iconic London skyline, Sarah Jane-Killick joined thousands of runners for the Vitality 10,000 – one of the flattest and most scenic city races in the UK. But Sarah’s run was about more than just crossing the finish line in front of Buckingham Palace – she was running to raise vital funds for the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy (PCIT), a place which has become close to her heart.
Sarah’s motivation is deeply personal. Her husband, Philip, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s last year – a life-changing moment which brought uncertainty, questions and a need for support. That’s when they found PCIT, a Canterbury-based centre offering a range of non-drug therapies all in one place to help those living with Parkinson’s.
“Philip reached out to PCIT not long after his diagnosis,” Sarah shares. “He had an assessment there and we both learned so much about how to live well with Parkinson’s. It was practical, hopeful and encouraging.”
Since then, Philip has stayed connected with the Centre – using the therapies that work best for him when he needs them. He’s also now a volunteer at the PCIT charity shop, giving back to the very community that helped him find his footing during a difficult time.
For Sarah, it felt only natural to run in support of PCIT. While she had previously fundraised for larger charities like Parkinson’s UK, she recently decided to direct her efforts more locally, where she could see the direct impact of donations.
“This Centre is doing amazing work and I’d love to help them continue to grow,” she says. “They’re working to improve the lives of their members and that’s exactly what they’ve done for us.”
Sarah hopes to raise £500 through this race along with a wreath-making fundraiser at home in December and a pull-up challenge to boost donations. She is nearly at her target but she needs your help to get over the line. Every donation goes directly to PCIT, helping us continue our invaluable work with people like Philip and families like theirs.
Please consider supporting Sarah’s fundraiser online and help her reach the £500 target. Your support truly makes a difference.
Thank you Sarah for fundraising for PCIT, we really appreciate your support.
