Saxon Shore Relay Race raises £1,500 for the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy

On Saturday 15th June, 35 teams completed the 2024 Saxon Shore Relay Race, a challenging 47-mile multi-terrain course that winds its way through the scenic Kent countryside. The event raises funds for various charities and we are delighted that they chose to donate £1,500 to the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy (PCIT).  We are most grateful to them for their support.

The Saxon Shore Relay Race is no walk in the park. Designed for teams of 4 or 5 runners, the course is divided into 22 separate sections, each ranging from 2 to 3 miles. Throughout the race, each team member tackles 4 or 5 legs, covering a total distance of 9 to 10 miles. It’s a true test of teamwork and endurance, with runners relying on their teammates for support and encouragement at each handover point.

David Ovenden, the race organiser and a friend of PCIT said “Whilst I take the blame for starting this challenging race back in 1998, it’s truly rewarding to see it raise money for such important causes within our community.  Our contribution to PCIT will directly help people in Kent living with Parkinson’s disease. PCIT offers a range of integrated therapies that can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life and we are proud to be able to support this amazing cause.”

Mark Colley, Clinical Lead at PCIT, added: “Everybody at the Centre is incredibly grateful to David and the team for their fantastic achievement in the Saxon Shore Relay Race. Their dedication and fundraising efforts will make a real difference to our members. Their generous donation will allow us to continue providing vital therapies and support services that can significantly improve the quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s disease.”
