New cyber security awareness video about the work of cyber professionals

cyber professionals awareness video 2026

The Institute of Cyber Security for Society (iCSS) at the University of Kent is releasing a new animated video “How cyber professionals help keep us safe online” for raising the public’s awareness on how cyber professionals are helping protect us all from cyber threats. The same video is also available here on the YouTube channel of the video producing company Science Animated (SciAni).

The video is the third of a series of animated videos iCSS has produced, after the first one “How to be a cyber superhero” for educating children about cyber security career pathways was released in November 2022 (see here for a news article), and the second one “Why cyber security matters for everyone?” released in November 2023 (see here for a news article). All the three videos are released on YouTube as free e-resources for all to use for their own cyber security awareness activities.

The new video was co-produced by iCSS and KMCC (Kent & Medway Cyber Cluster), with support from the CyberFirst programme of NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre), UKC3 (UK Cyber Cluster Collaboration) and Kent and Medway’s local TV station KMTV. The video’s producers and directors are the iCSS Director Professor Shujun Li and SciAni, a company dedicated to producing animated videos to facilitate scientific communications with the general public. A number of cyber professionals including iCSS researchers and KMCC members contributed to the creation of the video: Dr Budi Arief (iCSS), Dr Alexandra Covaci (iCSS), Bogdan Georgescu (KMCC), Dr Virginia Franqueira (iCSS), Dr Jason Nurse (iCSS), Richard Starnes (KMCC), and Dr Oscar Zhou (iCSS).

iCSS is the University of Kent’s university-wide hub for cyber security research and education. Based on its 80+ academics from across all ten academic schools, iCSS coordinates a wide range of cyber security related activities, including research, education, innovation, school outreach, business and public engagement, wider awareness raising and skills development. iCSS represents the University of Kent as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education (ACE-CSE) with the Gold Award status and an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR), both recognised by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC, part of the GCHQ) until 2028.

KMCC (Kent & Medway Cyber Cluster) was founded in 2023 as the sole local cyber security cluster in the Kent and Medway region, recognised by the UKC3 (UK Cyber Cluster Collaboration) as part of a national scheme funded by the DSIT (Department for Science, Innovation and Technology). It works closely with iCSS and other local bodies, such as KMCS3 (Kent & Medway Cyber Security Student Society), KMCSN (Kent & Medway CyberSchools Network), BSides Kent and Eastern Cyber Resilience Centre (ECRC), to co-develop the local cyber security ecosystem in Kent and Medway.
