Cyber Security Careers Talk at The Rosewood School, Staplehurst

On Thursday 27 November 2025, Dr Virginia Franqueira and Professor Shujun Li – iCSS (Institute of Cyber Security for Society) Deputy Director (Education) and iCSS Director, respectively – attended The Rosewood School in Staplehurst for a session about cyber security careers.

The talk covered examples of cyber security career paths, journeys into cyber security – not necessary being a neat straight line but rather full of twists and turns, practical tips to develop skills valuable to cyber careers, and cyber-related courses at the University of Kent.

Thanks to Sonya Eade for approaching us to make this happen.

Dr Virginia Franqueira said: “It was a very rewarding experience to expose students with some gaps in education to the inclusiveness and diversity of cyber security career paths. I hope we have inspired them to pursue their own way into cyber security – no matter their preferences.

Sonya Eade said: “We were delighted to welcome our 2 guests from the University of Kent and our young people were very grateful that they made time in their day to deliver a cyber security talk. The young people learnt a great deal during the session and have since had further conversations about cyber security and referred to the knowledge they learnt in the talk, so the session definitely ignited an interest.
