Teaching begins on Monday 27th September. We hope you can see your timetable via Kent Vision. For now, I wanted to take a moment to welcome you to your school (SSPSSR) and the Kent Criminology Group.

Are you excited? So are we! You also might feel a bit nervous about starting University and the changes it will bring. To help you feel more confident about this next step, this weblog gives you a bit more information about what your time at Kent studying criminology will look like.

The aim of your first year (Stage 1) is to provide you with a general understanding and an interdisciplinary take on criminology. The second year offers an in-depth analysis of the theoretical and criminal justice dimensions of criminology. This is also where student paths start diverging as a variety of optional modules allow you to explore your topics of interest! The third year is all about the educational path you want to take. Without any core modules, a wide variety of modules allows you to construct your own unique path in criminology. Here, the journey is entirely yours.

I hope you will learn a lot as a criminology student at Kent, but also … that you will enjoy the experience. Make friends for life, celebrate the accomplishments, learn from mistakes, let no questions be unanswered and never let failure deter you from the path you want to take. They are all essential steps in learning.

We look very much forward to meeting you,

Dr. Elke Van Hellemont on behalf of the Kent Criminology Group, Canterbury Campus

Dr. Marian Duggan, Dr. Marisa Silvestri, Dr. Phil Carney, Dr. Michael Mills, Dr. Caroline Chatwin, Dr. Kayla Wicks, Dr. Giuseppe Maglione, Dr. Jack Cunliffe, Dr. Emma Cooke, Dr. Rachel Seoighe, Dr. Simon Cottee, Dr. Erin Sanders-McDonagh

Back

Hello and welcome, My name is Dr. Elke Van Hellemont and I’m the Director of Studies for Criminology at the University of Kent, Canterbury Campus. … Read more
