Part-time one-year CPD course Developing Dental Practice through Mentoring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On this CPD course, you develop the skills needed to be a successful mentor within a dental workplace setting. Mentorship is essential to promote a sustainable commitment to high-quality patient care and is used by many multi-professional groups, to ensure competence development, performance transition and enhancement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"course_row\">\n<div class=\"Course_info_title\">\n<h4><strong>Course Description<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<dl>\n<dd>Throughout the course, you are encouraged to look at the mentorship as a means of ensuring professional standards development across your whole team.<\/p>\n<p>The course places particular emphasis on the role of mentoring in the following areas: continuing professional learning and development; education; induction and appraisal. These areas are relevant to all professional colleagues and to other team members.<\/p>\n<p>The course helps you to develop the skills needed to ensure that contemporary practice informs all areas of professional practice in your workplace.<\/p>\n<p>From the course, you develop the following skills:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A critical understanding of personal, professional and organisational perspectives related to mentorship.<\/li>\n<li>A critical exploration of the ethical and professional perspectives of mentorship and how both effect the development and evolution of novice to expert practice within the dental workforce.<\/li>\n<li>A critical knowledge and understanding of selected core theories, concepts, frameworks and principles relevant to mentoring.<\/li>\n<li>A critical understanding of the power and communication dynamics in mentor relationships.<\/li>\n<li>Planning and applying the principles of mentorship within a dental care setting to raise the standards of professional practice within the organisation.<\/li>\n<li>An ability to act as a mentor in order to evolve practice<\/li>\n<li>An ability to critically reflect on and evaluate your own performance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To book a place<\/strong> please visit: http:\/\/store.kent.ac.uk\/short-courses\/faculty-of-social-sciences\/centre-for-professional-practice\/developing-dental-practice-through-mentoring<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This short course includes 30 hours of teaching conducted over three separate weekends. The course includes taught sessions and work-based learning, personal reflection and self-study. The total number of hours of study required is 300 hours.\u00a0 At the beginning pf the course, you complete a guided study package (15 hours of learning), which is available via the Virtual Learning Environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You complete three pieces of work, which are assessed; an overall combined pass mark (50% or above) must be gained to successfully complete the course. On successful completion of the course you are awarded 30 credits at Level 7.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dates for taught sessions: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Weekend 1: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Friday 27 &#8211; Sunday 29\u00a0October 2017<\/p>\n<p>Topics covered include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Concept of novice to expert within the development of professional practice.<\/li>\n<li>Theories and principles of mentorship.<\/li>\n<li>Theories and principles of learning and development.<\/li>\n<li>Application of mentorship within the healthcare professions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Weekend 2: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Friday 9 &#8211; Saturday 10\u00a0February 2018<\/p>\n<p>Topics covered include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Application of principles of mentorship.<\/li>\n<li>Structuring mentorship activity to advance the dental workforce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Weekend 3: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Friday 23 or Saturday\u00a024\u00a0March 2018<\/p>\n<p>Topics covered include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Presentation of case studies.<\/li>\n<li>Evaluating and reflecting on your own practice and that of others in order to develop.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Entry requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are no formal entry requirements but applicants are required to be working in a dental workplace setting.
